Snoring & Sleep Apnea Treatment
Restful Nights for You and Your Partner
Is snoring affecting your quality of life—or your partner's?
Snoring is often more than just a loud habit; it can be a sign of Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) or simply a result of an obstructed airway during sleep.
At Carolina Dental Center, Dr. Kevin Hojnowski provides a worthwhile investment in your overall health through custom-fit dental solutions designed to help you achieve a peaceful night’s sleep for years to come.
How Can a Dentist Help with Snoring?
Many people are surprised to learn that a dentist is often the first line of defense against snoring. Traditional snoring is caused by the vibration of tissues in the throat when the airway is partially blocked.
We offer Custom Snore Guards, which are oral appliances worn during sleep. These devices work by gently repositioning the jaw to keep the airway open, allowing for clearer breathing and a quiet night for everyone in the house.
While over-the-counter "boil-and-bite" guards exist, a custom appliance from Carolina Dental Center offers significant advantages:
-
Precision Fit: Molded specifically to your teeth to prevent the appliance from loosening or causing discomfort.
-
Durability: Made from high-quality materials designed to last for years with proper care.
-
Health Integration: Dr. Hojnowski ensures the guard supports your Comprehensive Oral Health without negatively impacting your bite or Gum Health.
The Benefits of a Custom-Fit Guard
Caring for Your Snore Guard
To ensure your appliance continues to protect your health, daily maintenance is essential.
-
Daily Rinse & Brush: Rinse with warm water immediately after removal to clear plaque. Use a soft-bristle toothbrush and liquid dish soap, as standard toothpaste can be too abrasive and damage the material.
-
Deep Cleaning: For the most effective clean, we recommend personal ultrasonic pods, such as the Zima Dental Pod.
-
Proper Storage: Always allow the guard to dry completely (usually less than 30 minutes) on a clean cloth before placing it in its case.
What to Avoid: Never soak your guard in mouthwash, alcohol, or boiling water, and keep it out of direct sunlight, as excessive heat can distort the appliance.
-
Bruxism (Teeth Clenching/Grinding)
-
Scalloped Border of the Tongue - indentations on the tongue from pressing against the teeth due to a restricted airway
-
Dry Mouth (Xerostomia) - Mouth breathing reduces saliva, reduces the pH, and increases the risk of tooth decay and gum disease.
-
Jaw Pain and TMJ Issues - soreness in the jaw and muscle fatigue caused by grinding
-
Red/Irritated Throat Tissues - caused by chronic snoring
